On this fine “official” spring day – we are excited to share with you some of the programmed retreats that Wilderness Wind is offering this upcoming summer. If you have been to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness before or would like to venture there for your first time, if you are an expert at canoeing or have never been in a canoe or if you’d just rather stay in a cabin or yurt – it doesn’t matter – the programs that Wilderness Wind offers could be just right for you. Take a look at our upcoming programs below:
2009 Events Calendar:
Writer’s Retreat: Listening for the Language of Nature
June 15- 19th or July13-17th
Some say that God’s world is silent. But on this canoe trip into the wilds of the world and our selves, we will try to listen—and look, and feel, and smell, and taste—more carefully and deeply than usual. Time for guided and free writing, discussion, and unhurried attention to the world and our inner voices will be built into the trip. Writing Facilitator: Jeffrey G. Gundy Ph.D. Professor of English at Bluffton University.
Survival Skills: A Trip on the Wild Side
July 11th-17th
Develop skills for starting matchless fires, turning plant fibers into cordage, dining on wild edibles and building emergency shelters while canoeing into a Primitive Management Area (PMA). PMAs are less maintained and permit only one group to camp per night thereby providing a private lake and true wilderness experiences. Trip leader: Cheryl Mast, Coordinator of Outdoor/Environmental Education at Amigo Centre
Seniors in Denial
August 2-7th
Though there are 60 year-olds and a 45 year-old on this trip, the median age is 73. We will travel to different campsites, but we will camp in one site for two nights and take a relaxed approach as we greet each day.
Lakeside Cabin Quilter’s Retreat
Oct 1-4th
Let your laughter join that of the loon’s as we quilt and bask in the spectacular colors of fall. Folks who scrapbook or participate in other forms of creative handiwork are welcome to join.
